Case Study - Bridge Community Centre & Student
Accommodation
Following the award of this prestigious £4.5million
contract to John Murray & Co, Sandwick Management
Systems were engaged to produce the ‘for construction
phase’ Health and Safety Plan and to act as Safety
Consultants throughout the project.
Along with the normal Safety Management Procedures
required for a complex site with up to forty workers,
key strategies were adopted to ensure full compliance
with all aspects of the Health and Safety at Work Act
1974 and all subsequent amending regulations.
Key Strategy 1
Comprehensive site start induction for all John Murray
employees, in one place at one time. This Site Safety
Awareness training proved invaluable in ensuring a
positive working environment through out the contract.
Key Strategy 2
Continual Safety Monitoring and Review, involving twice
weekly visits and inspections with follow up reports and
action points to the Managing Director.
Key Strategy 3
Direct involvement with key players on site (including
sub-contractors) and employees as necessary.
To maintain high levels of compliance, it was necessary
to engage with workers, on the job, in their own
environment to ensure that their own personal safety
awareness and management was up to the company standard.
This project was completed in January 2009. |
